A Walk Down Memory Lane I want to thank all the people who shared their pictures with me for the site. I know they mean a great deal to everyone who visits.
Highland Park was developed to provide homes to employees of the L & N Railroad. A place that was close to work as most walked to work and worked long hours. A safe place where they could raise and support their families. Above are a few pictures of the L & N workers. The picture on the right is a group of men working on the line, The 3rd man from the left is my Grandfather, Fred "Pop" Merideth.

The picture on the left is a picture of the Original Silverman's Department Store. The store originally opened in 1922 and this building remained in operation until the completion of the new store in 1947. The center Picture is of the ground Breaking Ceremony for the New Larger Silverman's Store in 1946. The picture on the right, is the newer larger store, the store most of us remember, knew, and loved. I can't think of Silverman's without thinking of Red Goose Shoes and shopping for back to school clothes. Again a big thanks to Dan for these wonderful pics, they bring back so many great memories!!!
Here are a few of the stores, Steedly Market at the corner of Crittenden Drive, Brown's , Jim and Bill's, and Albros are on Park Blvd. It would be wonderful to have pictures of these places when they were in operation.
Another of the favorite, well remembered, spots in Highland Park was the Highland Park Masonic Lodge. I remember standing on those stairs for what seemed like hours with my Dad, waiting to get to the top to order fish. It seemed like he knew everyone coming and going when we were there. I have visited the new location on Pinecroft, they still have the best fish in town. Next to the masonic lodge on Park Blvd was Patterson's Bakery.
