Dear Friends: I have tried for almost a year now to collect enough prepaid orders for publication of the book I have put together on the History of Highland Park without success. I have done everything I could think of to get the word out about the book. I was sure when I started this that there would be enough interest in the book to get the orders needed for publication. I never dreamed it would take this long and I would still be 89 orders short. I have thought a lot about this recently and have made some decisions. I have decided to put the publication of the book on hold until I can find a way to finance the publication on my own. I began taking pre-orders last September and never dreamed it would take this long. I intend to keep the website up to provide a place for memories of Highland Park to be shared with all those who hold it near to their heart. I also intend to redesign it to be more of an informational site. I am not and will not give up on getting the book to publication but feel it is unfair to those that have pre-paid for the book to continue to hold their money while I try to obtain the remainder of the necessary orders. For all of those that have pre-paid, I will begin to process refunds of the money you have paid me shortly. I will do my best to complete the refunds as quickly as possible but it may take several weeks for me to get them all mailed out given my current work schedule. I will also maintain the list of those that pre-paid and when I get the book published will give those individuals the first opportunity to purchase the book. I sincerely appreciate everyone who has supported me in this effort either with words of encouragement, information, pictures, or an order for the book. I cannot say enough about what it has meant to me to talk with and have you share your memories with me. I will continue to research and attempt to gather new information for the website and book as I search for alternative ways to publish the book. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank You! My page has done quite well in the past year with over 1,000 hits, I am very pleased with the number of hits and hope you have enjoyed your visit. For those visitors that are not familiar with the area of Highland Park, Highland Park started as farmland and was developed into a city. It became a city in 1890, was annexed by the City of Louisville in 1922, and the plan for acquisition of the area was announced in 1987. The land and area that made up Highland park was taken for the expansion of Louisville International Airport. I would greatly appreciate hearing from more previous residents or families. I would like to share stories and pictures. I have added a link to the favorite links page, to Darren's page of pictures of the current state of the highland park area. It saddens me deeply to see it so unkept. I am very interested in pictures and I am willing to meet with anyone willing to share their pictures. I would love to include as many pictures from different time periods as possible. I recently received several very nice pictures from one of the Silverman's Grandsons and will be taking down the pics of the school and putting up the Silverman pictures. Please check back often and sign the guestbook. A little bit about my family in Highland Park. I have a postmark on the pictures page of a postmark on a letter sent from my Great-Grandparents in Mammoth Cave to my Great-Uncle in Highland Park, KY. My aunt, uncle and cousins lived on Park Blvd. My Aunt lived at 4311 Park Blvd. I remember going to visit often and playing on the swings and monkey bars in front of their house while my family sat on the front porch and visited. I remember going to the Fish Fry at the Masonic Lodge and sitting on Santa's lap at Silvermans'. If you have questions or comments please feel free to email me. Thanks, for visiting.Free Hit Counter |
